The West Virginia University Board of Governors in Beckley approved a next year budget request of 11,279,458 a rise of about 3 million dollars over the current year. Dr E J Stahr Jr said funds cover 10 percent instructor raises seven percent for clerical and maintenance staff and half a million for new Agricultural and Engineering College campuses.

Charleston Man Killed In Wreck
ST. ALBANS AP A Charleston man, Gordon H. Mahan, about 55, foreman on a highway project, was killed when his car collided with a trailer truck skidding out of control on U.S. 60 at Coal Mountain west of St. Albans. The eastbound truck, driven by Homer Arnold, 34, of Winston-Salem, NC, skidded sideways in the wrong lane as Mahan’s westbound car struck it. Mahan was pinned in his car about an hour and a half after the crash, believed killed instantly. Arnold was not hurt.
