French Airliner Crashes Into Atlantic Killing Sixty Three
A four engine Air France airliner crashed while circling for a landing off Dakar Senegal. All 63 aboard are presumed dead after the aircraft sank in about 60 feet of water. Bodies have been found and naval craft search the scene. The flight was Paris to Abidjan with 55 passengers and 8 crew. Weather was overcast as the craft disappeared in a rainy shower during its third approach.

In fog on the Hudson River near lower Manhattan, the ferryboat Chatham struck the Seatrain Georgia. Nine people were reported hurt and taken to hospitals as the Seatrain Georgia continued to Edgewater, New Jersey. The Chatham was en route from Hoboken to Barclay Street pier. Seatrain Georgia carried freight cars from Savannah to Edgewater with a crew of about 45.
