I Circles No 2 and 3 will handle the program and hostess duties for the September meeting of the Woman's Society of Christian Service at the First Methodist Church. A devotional on Obedience was given by Mrs. Robert Higgins at Monday's meeting, and Cliff Mapes of the Detroit Tigers is coming.
Judy Valz II attends as attendant for Miss Elizabeth Collins at the wedding in Beckley West Virginia. The ceremony was held at Emmanuel Protestant Episcopal Church with a reception at River Yacht and Country Club. The bride wore a white organdy gown with a chapel train and carried red gladioli. Groom David LaMotte and bride Elizabeth Collins are both connected to Maryland and Virginia, with education at St. Paul’s School and the University of Virginia.
Mrs W W Honaker of Templeturer’s report headed a Tri County WCTU meeting in Beckley with 35 members present. Officers elected included vice president Mrs D A Keatley and treasurer Mrs Toney Gargas. The gathering at First Baptist Church also welcomed state WCTU president Mrs A L Rohrer and heard plans for the state convention and a Tri County Institute in Morgantown.
Genevieve Daniel selects September 28 for her marriage to Lt. Boucher Boyd at First Methodist Church in an informal ceremony at 4 p.m. The Mercer Street resident will be joined by her sisters Mrs. I. D. Lilly of Beckley and Mrs. P. J. Carr Jr. of Hinton. A First Methodist Church choir shower honored her with a hamburger fry and a miscellaneous gift presentation from numerous friends and church members.
A well attended afternoon shower honored bride elect Miss Powers at the Bowers residence on Woodlawn Avenue. Guests included Mrs. J. W. Ward Mrs. Robert Sheffler and other local ladies. Floral decorations graced the home as gifts were presented in an all white container. Engar Laprade noted hockey star also mentioned in the piece.
