Central Information Department No Solution, Ky. Newsmen Agree
Editors note reports that legislators study a proposed state department of information to centralize news for state offices. A UPI survey of Frankfort newsmen finds the Department of Public Information largely failed to replace local publicity offices, with departments maintaining own staff. Observers say access to specifics often rests with the individual agency. The department evolved to promote tourism and now disperses grants for promotion rather than direct advertising, with a Louisville firm receiving $250,000 in June to promote Kentucky’s resources and attractions.
