Public Utilities Forum Probes Annexation and City Services

Jaycee led discussion at Pinecrest Sanitarium on annexation and utility services. Beckley area residents explored cost changes if joining the city, noting city pays for all utilities and current budgets show 7700 for water 1600 for telecom and 28000 for electric power.

Meningitis and Tuberculosis Reports Across Counties

Raleigh County reports a meningitis case to the Virginia State Department Health Disease Control for the week ending Aug 10. Fayette County lists one tuberculosis case one gonorrhea and two syphilis. Boone County reports four gonorrhea cases and one syphilis case. Wyoming County lists one tuberculosis case and other incomplete data.

Treadaway Rites Slated Friday

Funeral rites for Mrs Rabama Caroline Treadaway will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Prosperity Baptist Church with Rev Don Lowe officiating. Burial follows at Treadaway Cemetery Prosperity. The 87 year old Raleigh County resident died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Cranberry home of her son Dick. She had lived with him for years. She was born in April 1870 to George and Letha Stover Treadaway. Survivors include one daughter and the son. A fragment notes a club meeting Friday in the home of Mrs Glen Barton for the Young Women’s Club of Central Baptist Church with Mrs Marie Hembrick as president.

Social meeting of Ralelgi County League of Postmasters

About 100 people attended a meeting at the Greenbrier Dairy Plant in Tuesday. Mrs. Oole Treadaway of Colton hosted guests including two sisters and postal employes. Speakers Blake of Maxwell Hill and Mrs Beaty Arthur of Clarksburg discussed how the postal department operates and interpreting Washington information into West Virginia language. The body will remain at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home until one hour prior to the service.

West Virginia newspapers will join nationwide in National Newspaper Week with Frances Ogden Stubblefied as committee chair in Charleston. The West Virginia Press Association, with Newspaper Association Managers Inc., plans state participation and emphasizes the role of a free press in upholding constitutional freedoms and the American way of life.

New Magnetic Ink Checks May Aid Post Office Travel Plans

A McGraw Hill System enables a machine to print traveler checks with magnetic ink and read 390 digits per second. The same tech could speed third class mail handling and possibly read handwriting or signatures, preventing mischarges and speeding routing.

Friday Program At St John Holy Church

A program set for Friday at 7 30 pm will be held in St John Holy Church. Mission Circle members will organize with West Wickham and Central Baptist Circles invited to participate. Rev Mrs Strickland and the prayer Band for Slab Fork act at 7 30 pm, Saturday. On Sunday at 3 pm the Pastor's Aid sponsors a program featuring the Three Wonders Quartet of Glen Jean. Mrs Louise Staples chairs. Elder W M Neal is pastor.
