Beckley Plans Bigger Budget With Recreation Levy
Beckley council approved a 1956-57 budget of 386970.78 dollars plus 96316.88 from a special recreation levy awaiting canvass by the County Court. The levy funds will be placed in a separate Special Recreation Fund for additions to facilities. The budget increases police fire and library allocations and adds street equipment and health department support. Official results from precincts favored the levy, with final approval pending state and county actions.

Lake Group Weighs Salt Soil Roadway Plan
The Flat Top Lake eel group will meet at 8 p m Monday to discuss a proposal to use salt soil stabilization for a new road around the lake. Norman M Agnew of International Salt Co described mixing six inches crushed rock with sand and eight tons per mile of rock salt to form a four inch rolled surface. He said the method would not harm wildlife and would prevent ice and snow buildup except in extreme weather. The meeting is in Raleigh County Courthouse Nait County Courtroom.

Reckless Driving Fine Paid by Hulvey in Beckley
Carter Ford Hulvey of 219 Westwood Drive Beckley was released after paying a 30 dollar fine plus costs following arraignment before Magistrate T N Thurman on reckless driving charges. He was arrested last Wednesday by State Police on the West Virginia Turnpike.

S W Woodyard of Amere Gas Utilities Co disclosed a $130,000 project to upgrade Beckley gas service. Planned work includes an eight and six inch distribution line from Wickham to Skelton, 3505 feet of four and six inch laterals, a city gate regulator station and five district regulator stations. Davis and Armentrout Construction Co will build it, with completion expected by October.

Letis G. Wills and Raymond L. Adams of Jonben WV waived preliminary hearings after arraignment on moonshine liquor possession charges. They were freed on bonds totaling 4000 dollars 3000 for Wills and 1000 for Adams. Agents chased the moonshine truck from Mount View to Hinton Road Raleigh County.
