Sugar rationing office expands fruit canning sugar allotments
The sugar rationing office in the Memorial Building will issue larger canning sugar allotments on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for applicants with fruit ready for canning. Board Buys Mabscott Shop Equipment for Vocational School
The Board of Education purchased the Mabscott Machine and Electric Company’s entire stock of equipment for the new county vocational school on Park Avenue. Excess large items were resold to O'Brien Machinery of Philadelphia for $15,729.50 worth of other machinery. Remaining gear will be placed in county shops. Mabscott pieces are already moved into the school building. Classes may start September 1 with the machine shop, while electrical work awaits the second semester. Auto mechanics, wood working and aircraft sheet metal are already operating. Three machine shop teachers will be recruited, three of six applicants expected to be chosen soon, and will train in Montgomery, WV. Raleigh County received a federal $26,911 grant for vocational training.
