Ex-Governor backs coal slurry and pipelines
Former West Virginia governor Cecil H. Plane Search Off Except In W. Va
East ern Air Rescue Center at Robbins AFB Ga ordered CAP units in West Virginia and Kentucky to suspend their week long search for a missing plane but West Virginia National Guards men plan to take another look today at Cabwaylingo State Forest. Capt. Rocco Narcise Huntington a member of the 16th Special Forces Group ordered by Gov W W Barron to join the search said after interviewing a dozen persons Sunday he was convinced the missing plane came down in the forest. Narcise said members of the Huntington paratroopers unit and State Police plan to locate an unidentified object sighted Sunday from a hillside. Among State Policemen in the search Sunday was Supt W F Burchett who flew in an Air National Guard helicopter to coordi nate air and ground search paries. The Georgia base called off the CAP search exactly one week after the plane carrying three members of an Atlanta family was reported missing. The craft carrying Mr and Mrs Dana Byers and their 15 year old daughter Beverly disappeared after Byers radioed Tri-State Airport in Huntington that he was running out of gas and was lost. Since then CAP wings from West Virginia Kentucky Virginia and Tennessee have joined in the fruitless search of heavily wooded areas along the pilot's projected flight line. Maj Ernest H Chieves wing deputy for operations said Sunday night that searchers were hampered by a lack of good leads. Twenty nine aircraft put in a total of 85 hours of flying time over the weekend to check out dozens of reports scattered throughout the southwestern part of the State. Normally he said good leads work themselves into a pattern but this time we never even got a pattern.
