Charles D. Munson will resign after 30 years in Raleigh County to become superintendent of Upshur County schools. He has been Beckley Junior High principal, with prior roles as teacher, coach, and assistant superintendent. Appointment effective for a four year term starting July 1, 1950.

Kentucky Miner Harry Knight Dies At Itmann Mine
Phelps Ky electrician Harry Knight about 42 collapsed and died shortly after starting a second shift at Itmann Mine. Doctors cited a possible heart attack awaiting autopsy. Knight, married with six children, had complained of illness during his first and second shifts. He was staying with a sister in Pineville and relatives survive in Pineville. Funeral arrangements are with Robertson and Foglesong, transfer to Williamson planned.

One Hurt Two Jailed After Car Leaves Embankment
John Upton of Jumping Branch suffered lacerations and was taken to Beckley Memorial Hospital after his vehicle left a 10 foot embankment near White Oak around 11 a.m. Sidney C Sweeney of Jumping Branch, owner of the car, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and permitting an intoxicated person to drive. He was jailed at Raleigh County Jail at 12:20 p.m. A passenger, George Sluss of Jumping Branch, was also charged with drunkenness and jailed.

Blaze Destroys Four-Room Frame House in Shady Spring
