New York showings reveal fall silhouettes with easy middle lines and the three piece Modern Josephine ensemble. Designers present camel hair coats with back straps, loose backs, and high waisted looks, plus velvet frames and signature elastic waists.
Mrs. M M Ralsten and her husband returned from a six week European trip with first hand observations on fashion. In Paris and Florence private showings exposed American buyers to Italian and French garments including gowns by Giovannelli of Rome and Pelinomber silk pieces. She notes American women are better dressed than their European counterparts, and that Paris shops offer original gowns at lower prices during post season sales.
A back to school feature shows a young girl using scented toiletries designed for ages 3 to 12. The line includes toilet water bath powder lipstick gum massaging brush and more with a lambs wool puff and colorless pomade. Also notes on cost of home freezers and reasons to handle kitchen knives safely.
A weather resistant clear plastic push button with a nameplate holds a small electric bulb that stays lit constantly. The bulb shines through a gold back onto the nameplate and costs about a penny per month to run. It installs by tapping into existing door wiring with no extra wiring needed.
Red ants are hard to remove but a new product named Roach Filmz promises quick control. Applied along ant trails, it leaves a durable invisible film for months and paralyzes legs so insects die within about three hours. It also kills black ants waterbugs roaches and silverfish. Mrs. Glenn Shanklin spoke at the Monday Mountain Top Garden Club meeting. Slides by Mrs. H. L. Watkins featured birds flower arrangements and West Virginia scenic views. Miss Betty Sallack hosted a slumber party at her West Virginia Street home honoring Miss Toni Wood of Eagle Rock Virginia, guest of her aunt Mrs. M. P. Hants.
Paris designer Jean Desses unveils a fluid silhouette with off the shoulder slips and halter variations. Hemlines drop to 11 or 12 inches above the floor while draped collars and a ceremonial chalice outline guide the look. Dark purple dominates the collection with bold jewelry accents.
