Beckley Boosts Fire and Police Budget in Record Year
Beckley City Council approved a 339,701.08-dollar budget for 1949 1950 in a session described as secret before a formal vote. The plan adds two union positions per department, shifts to more paid personnel, replaces volunteers, and installs a city radio system across three police cruisers and fire trucks. New police cars and parking meters are included, with salaries and equipment funding up markedly from prior years. City income is expected to rise through higher taxes and diminished reliance on some existing revenue sources.
