Four-H Campers Hold Election at Fayette County

Four H Club campers staged a mock election at Beck with guidance from H B Carden and Deputy G T Davis. They elected Robert Levy as circuit court judge Walter Cottrell as sheriff Kathryn Gilkerson as county clerk and other posts including Joanna Crosier as Board of Education president Joy Craige as County Court president and Josephine Lewis as State Senator. The county court also named Wilma Lasley Eula Hoffman and Ruth Massey as deputy sheriffs.

Memorial Fund Short by Eight Hundred Six Dollars

The Fayette County War Memorial fund is $806.50 short of its $16,550 goal. J. D. Shultz, chairperson, expects the amount to be raised before Wednesday, August 6. Donations from Fayetteville residents and local firms aim to buy Wiseman property near the center of Fayetteville for the memorial. The county court will act on the recommendation to purchase the site on August 6.

Three Fayette Men Fined for Assaults

Three Fayette men were fined ten dollars and costs after arraignment before Magistrate W H Level on assault charges. William Agee Cunard charged with assaulting Nat Peirce Leftwich for assaulting Charlotte Payne and Harry Lainer for assaulting Boyd Rackley all of Mount Hope Summerlee and Cunard areas named in the case.

Legionnaires to Attend Conclave

MOUNT HOPE The following men will leave Friday and Saturday to attend the 1947 Department Legion Convention at Clarksburg August 2, 3, 4, and 5. From Fayetteville are Myron R. Renie and Harry R. Miller and James Hambrick. From Mount Hope are Louden Page Lloyd G. Fitzgerald H. D. Gast Jr. and Robert Dower. They will represent the two region posts and exchange ideas with other legionnaires and return with plans to further legion work in Fayette County.

L C Hurt doorkeeper of the Senate and head of the diplomatic gallery spoke of a vacation at his Fayetteville home. Scarbro Cannery Gears Up For Twice Weekly Openings

Oak Hill report states the Scarbro Community Cannery will operate Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. under supervisor I S Leece of Mount Hope and Mrs D C Harris of Oak Hill. On opening day July 22 the site canned 667 quarts of fruits and vegetables.

Fayette Polio Fund Deficient Highlighted At Lions Meet

At the Mount Hope Lions Club meeting Lion Bernard Rocke warned parents to prevent overheating and chill exposure to avoid polio. He noted Fayette County raised 3300 for polio while over 8000 has been spent on current victims this year. The club voted 35 toward a fund supporting Miss Jane Watters in a Southern West Virginia beauty contest and discussed visits to local patients and oil field tours in Oklahoma City.
