Taxi Driver Recalls Escape Ordeal and Caution Toward Passengers
Beckley cabbie Charles Forren, held about 18 hours by four escaped prisoners led by George Belew, survived a 30 mile trek through West Virginia’s New River Canyon uninjured aside from sore feet and a headache. Belew, once on FBI’s most wanted list, claimed to tell grandchildren of the escape. Forren says the men were polite and shared cigarettes. He avoided jeopardy by convincing them he was headed to Summersville while Belew aimed to mislead authorities toward Hinton.

Third victim dies in California highway sniper case
