With five days left before the filing deadline, four of West Virginia's six House members are unopposed for renomination. Rep. Will E. Neal of the Fourth District, the lone Republican, is expected to file. Opponents challenge Rep. Robert H. Mollohan, Rep. Elizabeth Kee, and Rep. Revised Reserve And Draft Laws Near Final Form
A top Pentagon official said the Defense Department may seek a drastic revision of draft and reserve training laws. The plan would require 18 to 26 year olds to serve six months active duty before ongoing drills with reserve units, and mandate continued National Guard training for most of the eight years of service. It would also set new size limits for regular and reserve forces, to be determined by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with near final approval expected from the President, NSC, and JCS.
