Raleigh County board conducts interviews after the resignation of high school teachers while personnel recommendations are approved. The move follows resignations and signals ongoing personnel decisions.
Representatives of Central and Brooks Addair Elementary School Parent Teacher Associations urged the Board of Education to relocate graves at McCreery Cemetery to unlock a 90 by 100 foot lot for the school playground. The board formed a committee with Dr. W. W. McKinney to study the proposal and report next meeting.
A lightning strike hit a television antenna at Dr B B Richmond's residence 125 Granville Ave Beckley causing minor damage to the TV junction box as firefighters responded to the scene Tuesday night.

Former State Road Commission official Patrick C. Graney, 60, of Mount Hope, to appear in Beckley Police Court on reckless driving charges after his vehicle hit two parked cars on North Kanawha Street. In Mabscott, Richard Lee Hill was booked for improper vehicle registration. Jerry Gordon Beavers, 20, Johnstown Road, to appear for speeding. Clarence Hill of Bluefield found guilty on a non support warrant. jailed after paying fine.
Gene Jordan and his wife Ruth stage a sacred concert at Appalachian Bible Institute Chapel in Bradley at 8 tonight. Jordan, an accomplished marimba and violinist on HCJB Quito’s staff, plans vocal solos and duets with Ruth as they seek funds to start a new radio station in Montevideo Uruguay while living in Oak Hill.
The Raleigh County Chapter of the American Association for the United Nations meets at Bank of Raleigh at 7 30 tonight to approve a constitution and elect officers for the coming year. Mrs James C Higgins chairs the unit and announces the state meeting in Bluefield April 28 29 with Ambassador Gunewardene of Ceylon as speaker. Reservations go to Mrs Higgins 1400 Harper Road.
Edgar Leisure 43 of Beckley, charged with assault with intent to kill, will face murder charges after his wife, 33, died at Raleigh General Hospital ten days after being shot three times in a car on Rt. 3 near Jumping Branch. Leisure fled to Roanoke, was captured, waived a preliminary hearing, and remains jailed. Prosecutors plan to issue a murder warrant as his trial heads to the May Summers County term.
Alpha Cavendish of 206 G Street is in good condition at Beckley Hospital after being admitted Tuesday for treatment of a right knee injury from a fall. He is affiliated with the Bureau of Mines in Mount Hope.
Cecil Bennington of Sprague suffered a right hand injury Tuesday while operating a can washer at the Greenbrier Dairy. The incident prompted a medical evaluation and no further details were provided about his condition or the cause.
Beckley Mayor Cecil L. Miller and three councilmen said their Washington, D. C. trip last week yielded progress on federal aid. The Raleigh County Court approves condemnation to acquire land at Stephens Branch dam site for project progress. Land owned by Paul Halstead and others may be sold to the county this week. The court also approves $100 for stenographic work in proceedings led by Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Sparacino.
City council approved 2951.50 from special recreation levy funds to improve and expand toilet and bleacher facilities at the Babe Ruth League field on Eisenhower Drive. bids were received from J. J. Lamb and Son 1244.40 and Harvey Construction 1652.10 for bleachers. Bridges engineer fee 55. Council also eyed three City Hall signs and rezoning North Kanawha Street block to commercial.
Harold F. Klein of Manufacturers Trust Co spoke at the West Virginia Bankers Association Group Four meeting in Charleston on good citizenship in banking. New officers were to be installed for the group including Kanawha, Clay, Boone and Nicholas counties.
Roy D. Millican is cashier and vice president while T. V. Hutchinson and J. C. Brown are assistant vice presidents. Grover St. Clair and L. T. Tully are named in the same context as officers.
