A low chance for new construction this year was noted, with repairs planned at Trap Hill, Montcoal, and Leevale Highs under H F Wilfong and FERA oversight.

Clyde Lilly, Shady Spring district merchant, held in Beckley hospital as his wife Nettie Lilly is expected to die from gunshot wounds suffered at their Ghent Cool Ridge home. Lilly wounded himself, state troopers say intoxicated. Herbert Patrick, 22, Edwight miner, wounded in the same incident, remains precarious. Martha Mason held in jail after shooting him at Edwight.

Hollywood shootings claim two lives at movie studio
In Hollywood a designer Paul Ivar Wharton, 25, and his chauffeur William Howard, 35, were killed after a quiet dinner. Henry E. Bolte, 38, UCLA law instructor, was critically wounded as Howard also died. Bolte said a stranger shot him at his apartment door, then another shot rang out as the man fell.

Mother and son sentenced to hang in Delaware
Mrs. Mary H. Carey aged 52 and her son Howard Carey were sentenced to be hanged in the county jail on June 7 for the killing of Mrs. Carey’s brother Robert Hitchens. A second son James, 23, received a life term. Prosecutors said the motive was to obtain a $2,000 life insurance payout.

Minor Airport Route 19 21 Collision Injures One
One man was slightly injured in a rear end type collision near the airport on Routes 19 21. Lyle Woodruff of Price Hill was hurt with a laceration on the right temple while riding in a Chevrolet coupe driven by Amos Totten of Price Hill. Totten’s Hupmobile coupe was driven by W W Leak of Mount Hope and Martha Bragg of Shady Spring drove a Plymouth coupe. three autos sustained minor damages. Little Girl Slain by Father in Martinsville
An 11-year-old girl Mary Esther Stull was killed in her Paden City home by her father John Stull who confessed to the shooting. Convicted Man Quits Jail Cell Philippi Escape
Lawrence Carroll a 32 year old convicted slayer escaped Barbour county jail early today using a self made key. City Patrolman Harry Nestor discovered the breakout at 7 am after a guard was to feed the prisoners. Deputy sheriffs organized a posse to search. Carroll who was sentenced in February to 14 years for the May 27 1934 slaying near Moatsville was freed from a cave burial scene.

Isaac T. Robinett, a dog track promoter, was arrested by Tulsa police and admitted teaming with Henry Hollandsworth in the October 9 killing of Constable Joe Davidson near the Mercer county poor farm. Robinett fingerprint ID led to his arrest. Hollandsworth is serving life for the murder.

Estill Barnett, who fled before a scheduled federal trial on a $12,500 payroll robbery charge, was found dead on a highway between Richmond and Winchester. He was blindfolded with a bullet wound above the heart. Postal inspectors and a coroner are investigating as a $15,000 bond is forfeited and a bench warrant for arrest is issued.
