Saturn launches second test flight lifts payload and creates ice cloud
CAPE CANAVERAL UPI The United States fired the Saturn rocket on its second successful test flight delivering a 95 ton ballast payload of water to create the highest ice cloud ever seen. The 460 ton booster rose slowly from the pad, then arched south west with eight engines roaring. The test demonstrated propulsion and staging for future moon missions while the upper stages were deliberately exploded about 65 miles up to release the water. The cloud was observed by ground cameras, planes, and radar. Debris fell into the Atlantic east of Cape Canaveral. no recovery was planned.

Beckley Man Harry Simms Dies After Gunshot Wound
A Beckley resident, Harry Simms, 78, died at Bluefield Sanitarium at 8 a.m. after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. He was admitted the day of the shooting for treatment but surgery was deemed unsafe. Simms had been in ill health and his wife Edna Simms was seriously ill at home.
