Telephone Union Expected to Postpone Strike
In New York the CIO Communications Workers of America eyes a possible postponement of the nationwide telephone strike set for tomorrow. An unidentified union official said the CWA executive board or a government source could order a delay, with ongoing bargaining suggested for 10 to 20 days. About 10,000 CWA equipment workers with Western Electric were already on strike, jamming long distance lines. A federal mediator said negotiations remain in progress with no clearer path to settlement.
