VA regional director Maurice L. Howells announced that 30 000 West Virginia veterans were insured for 225 809 000 and received 1 618 000 in dividends in 1970. National totals show over five million insured for about 38 billion with 1 billion in income from all five programs.

GAA Members Attend Concord Play Day
Seven members of the Girls Athletic Association of Sophia High School attended the annual Play Day at Concord College in Athens on Saturday. Accompanied by faculty advisor Mrs. Charlotte Daniels, the group includes Sue Eller Paula G Goddard Rose Mills Karen Fox Iris Smith Kathy Mace and Trudy Mills. Play Day is sponsored annually for delegates from Southern West Virginia and parts of Virginia. Delegates are selected on activity points kept by the GAA for various activities.

AEL Project to Get Airing Telecasts Home Education Show
A film on rural Appalachian preschoolers learning at home via an Appalachia Educational Laboratory project will air Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on WSAZ TV Channel 3 Huntington. NBC produced it for the Education and Welfare Department. The program features AEL Director Dr. Benjamin Carmichael and teaches through tele lessons, weekly home visits, and a mobile classroom van.
