Local Raleigh County Leauge Opens With Promising Fray
Six clubs opened their Raleigh county league season last Sunday amid wind and chill. Today ten clubs resume with aims for sunny weather. In A League Mullens at Glen Rogers and Scarbro vs Mabscott highlight pairings with Edwight at Tams and Lillybrook hosts. Major improvements at Lillybrook include a new enclosed park and bargain 15 cent admission. Majors at Tams add a 400-seat grandstand. Edwight faces the team led by Dr Scott A Ford and R L Deitz. Mabscott, last year’s B league champions, meets Scarbro at Miners’ old grounds with Tommy Roberts likely on the mound. Ameagle hosts Glen White amid optimism. Gil White gains strength from new players Donnie Elkins, Ernest Brown, Clifton Caraway, and Bert Bumbo. Woodbay takes Layland after Layland shifts from Clifftop due to wind damage. Price Hill plays Pemberton as both clubs debut home games in Fayette County. April 18 election returns show Jackson County Republicans leading Democrats in precinct tallies with a 1,700 over last Sunday’s line.
