New Murphy Store Opens In Mullens

Mullens dedicated G. C. Murphy Company store opens in a rebuilt 9900 square foot building on Howard Avenue. Manager G D Skidmore notes full stock and expanded brands with J A Jeter and Bessie Webb assisting. A 34 foot snack bar and soda fountain will be added when equipment arrives.

Mrs. M. E. Griffin of Mullens Hill was elected treasurer of the Southern Convocation of Episcopal Church Auxiliaries at Eckman meeting. Attending were Rev. E. B. Pollanick, Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. John D. Farmer, and Mrs. Dave Arnold from Mullens with seven churches from Mingo, McDowell, Mercer, and Wyoming counties. Bishop R. E. L. Strider spoke and holy communion was observed. Deaconess Edith A. Fayetteville Soldier Headed Home After Overseas Service

Private First Class Rodney G. Armstrong, son of Mr and Mrs R R Armstrong of Fayetteville, is en route to Camp Atterbury Indiana to receive his discharge. He arrived at Long Beach California on Tuesday after nine months overseas duty and served with the Quartermasters Corps for over two years.

Corporal Joe E. Jordan of the United States Marine Corps is discharged at Great Lakes Illinois after three years of service. He spent two years overseas on Saipan Tinian and Oahu. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Jordan and a 1943 Oak Hill High School graduate.

Hope Vet Serves On Dance Committee At Marshall College

Mount Hope resident Jack Keatley son of Mr and Mrs D A Keatley joined the Marshall College Veterans Association dance committee for a pre Easter event in Shawkey Student Union hall. Keatley a veteran of North Africa and Italy served 24 months and discharged October 6 1945. His brother Kenneth also serves in the navy after attending the University of Chattanooga on a football scholarship.

Three youths held over Glen Rogers road robberies

Three Wyoming County youths Clyde Perdue Clarence Pinson and Clyde Lemon all Ravenscliff were held for preliminary hearing today on highway robbery charges tied to four early morning hold ups near Glen Rogers. Victims were en route to work and the trio allegedly robbed four men collecting 532 dollars and two flashlights. Perdue and Lemon are ex servicemen. Pinson was captured at Pineville and the others at Ravencliff. Hearing set between 4 and 5 p m today.
