Oak Hill Garden Club hosts annual fellowship luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hotel Hil Clubs with Spade and Trowel Redbud and Oak Hill participating. After lunch an open house will follow at Mrs. RE Kelly’s home on Kelly Avenue to view the newly acquired garden center.
Mrs. Mary Jorosz Jarvis 72 died at 5:30 a.m. at her Scarbro home of a heart attack. Born November 5, 1885 in Poland, she leaves husband Mike, daughter Beatrice Uryga of Detroit, and sons Pete of Chicago Edward Theadase and Leon of Scarbro with 10 grandchildren. Body at Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill. arrangements incomplete.
Final rites for Earl Shelton Garten will be conducted at 2 p m Sunday in the Gatewood Church of God by Rev Ted Fox. He died in an Oak Hill hospital Thursday. A retired miner born April 18 in Grundy Virginia he is survived by his wife five sons five daughters a brother and a sister and 13 grandchildren. Burial will be in Huse Memorial Park Fayetteville with body removal from Dodd Payne Mortuary Fayetteville to the home Saturday afternoon.
Roland P Sharp Jr son of Dr and Mrs Roland P Sharp Mullens is a member of the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery graduating class in Kirksville Missouri He did pre osteopathic work at Greenbrier Military School Concord College and Virginia University He will intern at Laughlin Osteopathic Hospital in Kirksville after graduation His wife Melva Lilly Daniels and their child Sherry Lynn are noted

Beckley based Raleigh Junk Co. in Beckley was fined plus costs after a hearing before Magistrate Jack Pizzine in Glen Fork on Wednesday for operating an overweight truck on a posted road.

Roy Lee Clendenin 16 of Oak Hill was sentenced in Fayette Circuit Court to two terms in the Medical Security Prison Huttonsville with the two terms to run concurrently. He pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the Oakville and King Coal Chevrolet Stonk Indictments were dismissed on prosecuting attorney motions. Clendenin has served a year in the Forestry Camp for Youthful Offenders. The trial of Tony Adkins and DeQuasle of Oak Hill began in the Circuit Court on the same day. The Public Service Commission planned a hearing on Logan Water Co complaints by eight Logan County housewives alleging rust odor and discolored water damaging appliances and clothing. River side Development Co. faced a fresh complaint over water supply at Shrewsbury, east of Charleston. Logan Water Co. acknowledged iron content but denied other substances and noted filtration plant installation delays due to site issues.
The Ladies Aid of the Gospel Tabernacle met Friday night at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Edgar Beverley for a benefit sale offering hotdogs ice cream cake aprons grab boxes clothes pin bags and more. The group cleared 50.78.
Federal Judge Ben Moore orders delivery of two letters addressed to ex bank cashier W Garland Potter in Mount Hope. The mail includes stock certificates and personal content related to Potter who pleaded guilty to embezzling about 41500 from Bank of Mount Hope and faces 12 related charges. Daugherty notes letters require Post Office clearance and may take time.
Oak Hill WV VEW Post 3110 names John Calan as new manager after remodeling. The club opens at noon Saturday and its Ladies Auxiliary installs new officers at 8 p m that evening with members and guests served. Oak Hill Rotary hosts a film A Date With West Virginia shown Tuesday with 48 club members present and visiting members from Montgomery Fayetteville and Pittsburg.
Mrs. Margaret Gray will be installed as president as the Fayetteville Business and Professional Woman's Club is chartered at a 6:30 p.m. dinner in the Memorial Building. Other officers include Nancy Hunt vice president Marjorie Hogan treasurer Martha Thrift secretary and Pauline Chapman corresponding secretary. Community and local officials join guests from Oak Hill Beckley White Sulphur Springs and Fayetteville for the ceremony.
Xi Alpha Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will install officers at the April 23 meeting at the home of Mrs. C. W. Dixon Jr. on Thompson Ave. Mrs. Wilbur Eigenbrod gave a program titled History of Amish People at the Tuesday gathering at Mrs. Earl Bannister’s home and showed color movies of the Sweetheart Ball at the National Guard Armory. Attendees included Mrs. R. R. Thomas Jr., Mrs. James Hess, Mrs. Lewis Hussar, Mrs. Ernest Fazio, and Mrs. John Duda.
