Soft Coal Wage Cut Debate Faces Lewis Opposition
Washington reports that some soft coal producers might seek a miners wage cut from John L. Lewis, but major employer groups oppose the move. Lewis, back from Florida, is expected to resist. Slower production and lost export demand press coal values, with Q1 output at about 90 million tons versus 107 million last year.
