Mysterious murder case promises new statement
KINGWOOD UP I ) Pres ton County prosecutor Neil Reed said he will have another statement to make this afternoon in the Ray Mullenax murder case. Mullenax, 41, an unemployed lumber worker, had been missing from his Star Route Terra Alta home since December 22 and last week authorities charged his wife, Vonda Jean Mullenax, 33, with murder. Circumstances of Mullenax death remain undisclosed. Police will not say how he was killed or where his body was found. The Morgantown Dominion News reported he was treated as an outpatient December 15 at WVU Hospital for an apparently baffling nervous disease. Doctors could not diagnose it. Pieces of the decomposed body were said to be evidence transported to Washington for FBI analysis. Mrs. Mullenax has been held in Preston County Jail since last weekend without counsel. She was visited by relatives on her 33rd birthday.

Seven Railways Back To Normal After Shutdown
Seven of eight railroads crippled by a four day strike were returning to normal, with freight and passenger service near normal. Experts pegged the shutdown cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars as 60 Grand Trunk Western switchmen refused to return, seeking pay for time lost. The auto industry suffered about 500 million in production losses, GM plants faced closures and cutbacks, while Ford and Chrysler kept plants running but faced possible part supply bottlenecks. A federal court fined the BLFE and its president, and a show cause hearing was set for Wednesday.
