Mexico City AP reports two Soviet embassy attaches expelled for alleged involvement in the Easter rail strike. Slaying of Non-Union Mine Operator in Knox County

Fred L. Gregory of Bell County surrendered to police and was charged with murder in the slaying of Woodrow Smith at a Knox County coal mine. Police seek a United Mine Workers official and five others for questioning. Pickets harassed Smith over a contract dispute as tenets of the strike continued in seven counties.

Leroy Shadrick of Skelton West Virginia received a 5 to 7 year state prison term after conviction for an attempted armed robbery at the Home Builders Association in Albemarle North Carolina. Court To Hear $50 000 Lawsuit

Raleigh County Circuit Court will resume Thursday with a $50,000 damage suit on the docket. The action stems from a highway accident on the Shady Spring Pluto road November 21, 1958, involving an auto and a coal truck. Chester Wesley Reeves, an 18 year old infant suing by his father, claims bodily injuries while riding as a passenger in a car owned by Davy Carlos Bennett and driven by James Lilly. Beckley resident James E. Meadows was remanded to Raleigh County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bond after arraignment before Magistrate W A Burke. Bank Building still Available To City and County

Elmer Davis of Beckley National Bank says the mid town Beckley building remains on the market. No price has been set and no buyers yet, though offers were made to both city and county weeks ago. If not purchased, the bank will negotiate with other parties and may sell as a tax collection hub or future city hall.

Whiteside Rites Set Saturday

Funeral services for Flemming Whiteside, 51, of East Park at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Elder W. A. Tresenwriter officiating. Burial in Stanaford Cemetery. Survived by wife Eleanor, a stepdaughter Mary Saunders, four brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the services.

Tornadoes Kill Six In Texas

Tornadoes killed at least six people in Vaughan and Bynum Texas and injured dozens in Vaughan Bynum and other small towns. A KC135 from Bergstrom Base crashed near Killeen during a storm, killing unspecified crew.

Alcorn Reported Ready To Resign As GOP Chairman

Meade Alcorn expected to resign as Republican national chairman in 1960. Hartford Courant and Eiisenhower sources say he plans to return to Hartford law practice and possibly seek Connecticut governor in 1962. The GOP committee will meet to pick a replacement and set the convention site and date. Senator Thruston Morton tipped as likely successor.

Former Beckley Man Succumbs In New York

James Powell aged 40 formerly of Beckley died Monday night in a New York hospital after a brief illness. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Powell of 654 South Fayette Street Beckley and is survived by a sister Georgiana Brown of Beckley and a brother Booker T Powell of Brooklyn New York. The body will be returned to the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor. funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Auto Crash Puts Three In Hospital

Three people were admitted to Beckley Memorial Hospital shortly before noon today after a three car accident on Stanaford Road. Christian Chambers, 73, Maggie Chambers, 38, both of Stanaford, and Charles Midkiff of Prosperity remained in the emergency room at noon. The crash occurred when a truck driven by Nelson Eddie Allen, 16, Beckley, hit the back of the Chambers car, then skidded into a jeep driven by Verne Pack of Beaver. Midkiff was a passenger in the jeep. The jeep was in a funeral procession when the Chambers car traveling in the opposite direction stopped to allow the procession to pass.

Attendance Workers To Hear Head Of Institution For Girls

Miss Emma S. Houchins, superintendent of the West Virginia Industrial Home for Girls, will speak at the Southern Regional Attendance Workers Conference in Beckley on Thursday. The all day meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Building on South Kanawha Street. Other speakers include Richard Young and Richard Malcolm, with Judge K. K. Hall and H. Cliff Hamilton among the observers. Houchins, a native West Virginian, attended Concord College and spent 26 years with federal correctional institutions before becoming head of the girls home in 1957.
