Memorial Oaks Planted in Rahway for World War Sacrifice

Ten red oak trees were planted at Riverside Park by florist John R. Baumann at the request of the Shade Tree Commission to honor Rahway boys who died in World War I. The trees run along the park’s west side from the grandstand to the hilltop entrance. Delegates Mrs. K Hess and Miss M Somlack attended the Parent Teacher and Mothers Congress in Trenton, with Mrs. J Hoagland serving as substitute teacher during Somlack’s absence. A Mews Brotherhood was proposed at the First Presbyterian Church with a nominating committee named to select officers for a Sunday meeting and election.
