Eight and six inch guns taken as American troops press the Cambrai drive northwest of Verdun. Bishops of artillery, trench mortars, field guns and machine guns captured. Prisoners reach eight thousand with officers among them.
Reports from London and Geneva detail Bulgarian Premier Malinoff proposing an armistice to the Allies, with conflicting accounts from King Ferdinand and Berlin messages. Paris and Amsterdam bureaus note the move being presented to Entente leaders and to allied commanders, while Sofia signals a counter movement against the premier’s action.
Associated Press reports a major shift as Bulgaria seeks armistice terms amid continued Entente pressure. A Friday incident at Phillipsburg six miles south of Brenham injured Lieut. F N Carlson of Loda Illinois and badly damaged two of eight airplanes from Ellington Field Houston. The squadron’s planes struck fences as they landed due to the squall, leaving one aircraft nearly demolished.
General Pershing's forces push on from the Argonne toward the Meuse as prisoners increase and guns and equipment are captured. Units identified include the guards unit and a Saxon division. Captured orders indicate a predicted big attack around September 25 in Champagne and Lorraine.
Paris reports say French forces east of Rheims gained ground in two days of fighting, taking over 10 000 prisoners and material. The advance reached about five miles with key captures including Bois De L'Echelle and Cernay. Fort Worth Texas on September 28 reports the death of two lieutenants, George W Killorin Jr of Wakefield Massachusetts and Farbert Huck Wadeville Indiana, both killed when their IF plane fell Friday afternoon near Taliaferro field. Lieutenant Killorin was the son of a prominent contractor and attached to the school of aerial gas nery.
