H G Perry crew had yellow fever. Captain Stephen Paine died of cholera in Havana. a pirate vessel was detained after a captain’s corpse was found. Baron Henry de Revire was killed at Metz commanding French regiments.

Riersonp Va Sept 17 four colored men were executed at Isle of Wight Court House. The drop failed for two. they dangled while the others lay on the ground. After seventeen minutes the two surviving prisoners were hoisted and hanged. A riotous crowd had to be controlled by guards.
St Louis today saw a libel suit filed in the circuit court by Gen Clinton B Fisk seeking 50000 damages from the St Louis Zimes proprietors. He alleges publication of false statements accusing him of withholding and destroying books and vouchers and approving claims without benefit to the company.
A man entered a Milwaukee newspaper office before midnight asking for a pencil and paper. He wrote a brief message confessing as one of the murderers of Mr Nathan in New York and left in haste bought by remorse.
