In absence of a Republican newspaper for Lewis county the Quincy Wir is declared the official Republican paper for the county and all announcements shall be made through its column. It is cordially recommended to the citizens of Lewis county as a sound Republican publication worthy of patronage.

Baxdon Maine Sept 9 Bangor reports Perham Republican 1,997 Kimball Democrat 1,635 a Republican majority of 362. Portland towns show Perham ahead with large margins. A Missouri Pacific freight and cattle train collided about thirty five miles from St Louis at six o clock. Both engines were nearly ruined, six cattle cars wrecked and about forty cattle killed. Two cars of merchandise smashed. Loss about thirty thousand dollars. Cause: misreading of the time card.
