Missouri State Coal Inspector Omar D. Gray told Gov. Gardner that about three of ten public filling stations deliver short measures. Four deputy inspectors found nearly one-third of stations tested had short measures, some up to 50 percent. Gray kept station names private, citing innocent causes and pump defects. He ordered inspections statewide and set a Nov. 15 deadline to fix or discontinue faulty pumps, with names published for those failing to comply. No St. Louis stations inspected yet.
