Illinois Supreme Court says tax amendment failed
Springfield Wisconsin October 24 The Illinois supreme court ruled that the proposed state constitutional tax amendment did not pass since it lacked a majority of votes in the general election and affirmed the Sangamon county circuit court. The canvassing board had claimed passage based on 1916 legislature vote totals and the case was remanded for clarity. Proponents argued the amendment would remove constitutional limits and grant unrestricted legislative tax power on intangible property.
