Letters by Piersol Hint at Dual Handwriting in Kidnapping Case
In Marshfield Missouri on October 13 the trial of Claude J. Piersol for kidnapping baby Lloyd Keet focused on the formation of a small letter S found in two letter sets. A handwriting expert testified that the S and P appeared only in letters Piersol wrote to a friend, not in ransom notes, suggesting two writers. Juror James Hurst’s wife was reported critically ill, prompting the judge to allow Hurst to leave the jury. Piersol maintained composure in court, then showed emotion after returning to jail.
