Romanian forces that crossed the Danube into Bulgaria retreated under heavy pressure from German and Bulgarian troops. Teutonic monitors destroyed pontoon bridges, threatening supply lines as the first invasion of Bulgaria ended with feared encirclement and mass captures.
Sofia correspondent of the Frankfurter Zeitung and U S chargé d affaires Warfield cite a report detailing Romanian actions in Debric Silistria and surrounding towns. It describes assassinations and arson, mass displacements, and women driven to the trenches where many were murdered or burned. Estimated civilian deaths and exports from Dobrudja reach about 60 000.
J Frank Hanly the Prohibition candidate urged U S intervention in Mexico during an address in Sioux Falls on Wednesday night and pressed Charles E Hughes to state his Mexican policy if elected. He said intervention was inevitable and would be swift until a stable orderly government and U S prestige were restored.
A jury in Lima Ohio convicts Charles Daniels a Black man charged with assaulting Mrs Vivian Baker wife of a local farmer on August 30. A mob threatened lynching and forced Sheriff Eley to lead a car search before Daniels was held for sentencing at the county jail later stormed during the Aug 30 incident.
The Sulzer party, formed in 1914 by former New York governor William Sulzer, will back the national Republican ticket and part of the state Republican slate. Sulzer favored Democrat William I. McCombs for the U.S. Senate but predicted the Sulzer group could draw about 50,000 votes in New York.

ALBANY Ga Oct 5 A negro woman named Connelly whose son is charged with killing a white farmer after a quarrel in which she took part was taken from the jail at Leary Ga Monday night and lynched. Her body riddled with bullets was found Tuesday. The son is under arrest.
Sir Ernest Shackleton arrived in Buenos Aires from Santiago to thank Chile for rescue aid to Elephant Island survivors. He was welcomed by British Minister Sir Reginald Tower and Argentine officials, and was cheered by crowds on the way to his hotel. He will then travel to Montevideo to thank Uruguay for its help.
Jefferson City Missouri October 5 Charges that D C McClung warden of the penitentiary was responsible for an alleged felonious attack on convict James Underwood were dismissed in a justice court Wednesday Underwood testified he was kept in the pen for three days after the prison fire and given bread and water but he said he was not struck by the warden
Dr Richard Flower, famed for stock selling operations credited with over 1 million dollars, dropped dead in a Hoboken theater on a Sunday night. Identified by relatives, Flower, 73, wore many aliases and claimed roles as lawyer preacher healer and alchemist with secrets to ruby manufacture and a Wall Street mine venture.
Chicago, Oct 5. The comely young woman was retrieved from a lagoon in Jackson Park with signs of violence. She was well dressed, one shoe missing, and a small gold clasp remained in her ears. A laundry mark reading M. G. appeared on clothing. Police suspect the body was thrown into the lagoon about twenty four hours before discovery.

Mrs. Vivian Scott of Chicago won associate grand conductress at the grand chapter session of the Titinoils Order of Eastern Star, beating Mrs. Grace Steeley of Bloomington. Other officers named include Mrs. Emma T. Adams as grand matron and Mrs. Catherine Campbell as grand conductress. Two proposed bylaw changes failed, including district division and removal of rights for certain officers. Chicago likely to host next meeting before adjournment Thursday.
