British and American forces report rapid Allied advance along a 75 mile front from the River Scheldt toward the Aisne. German retreat tightens, with Americans crossing the Meuse and establishing pontoon bridges amid heavy artillery fire.
Early returns and party claims across Topeka Detroit New York St Louis Boston Boise Louisville and other cities show Republicans leading in Senate races and governor contests with margins from 6 000 to 40 000 plus in several states including Capper Allen Newberry Sleeper Smith Weeks Coolidge and Stanley with mixed results and pending final tallies.
Across Connecticut and Pennsylvania voters backed Republicans for governor and state offices as Philadelphia and Chicago tallied outcomes. Maryland New Jersey Indiana and Delaware results indicate Republican leads or victories in several races and likely legislative control shifts.

Topeka State Journal late Tuesday afternoon predicts Gov Capper will win the United States Senate seat over Senator W T Thompson by 100000 votes. It also projects Henry Allen for governor by 150000 and Republican candidates winning six of eight congressional districts.
American forces north of Verdun report heavy air action on November 5 as over three tons of bombs hit Mouzon and Raucourt. More than 120 Allied bombers and fighters engaged, fourteen Fokker aircraft downed, three American flyers missing. Bombs sparked fires in depots as Germans retreated. Conflans railway yards show thirty three shell and bomb holes and the main line damaged.

Rhode Island Republicans won a clean sweep re electing United States Senator Leba non H Colt and capturing all three congressional seats. Colt defeated O Shaughnessy by 4051 votes with only three of 1830 districts reported.
Ohio reports show James M. Cox leading Frank Willis for governor with a margin around 2,500 as about one-fifth of the state counted at 10:30. Prohibition totals show 72,405 for and 48,802 against with 1,108 of 5,736 precincts reported.
In Salt Lake City on November 5, Democratic secretary Richard B. Thurman announced the Democratic state ticket carried about three to two nationwide, with most districts reporting and only a few in the city showing Republican gains amid a larger turnout and scattered results.
ST. LOUIS reports early returns show Speaker Champ Clark defeated by 400 votes to Republican B. H. Dyer. The result marks a major political upset as results come in from Missouri.
