New York November 2 Col James P D Bell commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic died Saturday at his Brooklyn home at 74. Cause arterial hardening. He was ill under a week. He served three years and nine months in the Civil War, enlisted at 16, later worked in newspapers eight years and then studied law, living in Brooklyn for nearly forty years.
