Levees Threatened As River Rises To 18.6 Feet
Floods along the Mississippi have inundated thousands of acres of farmland and shut down major traffic on the Burlington line. River levels peaked at 18.6 feet at midnight, with trains delayed or rerouted and residents seeking high ground as boats, logs, and drifting debris endanger navigation. Rivermen, railroad crews, and farmers rush sandbags and repairs while communities from West Quincy to Keokuk brace for further rise and possible levee breaches.
