Attempted assassination of a Cincinnati officer
In Cincinnati Ohio on May 7 a bold attempt to kill Police Officer Bennett occurred at the St Vine corner. Desperado Matt McCarty snuck up with a four shooter within two inches of the head and fired twice but did not discharge. Bennett dodged the shots struck McCarty with a mace and knocked him down, with two bystanders stopping a possible fatal outcome. McCarty was badly wounded and taken to the station house where the attempt to assassinate was lodged against him.
