Medical Association Defers Seats for District Delegates

The American Medical Association rejected the minority report from its Ethics Committee and refused to admit District of Columbia delegates on grounds they are consulting colored physicians. The minority proposal to seat them was tabled 107 to 85. Also notes a resolution favoring state veterinary schools with legislatures providing appropriations.

Fatal river plunge follows waterfront dispute

Chicago May 5. Minutes before noon A. Alaphan walked to the LaSalle Street wharf, gazed at the river, and leaped after the courthouse bell struck. He disappeared in the water, leaving letters in his coat suggesting self destruction. W. J. Stewart of Piqua Ohio is named as a possible related figure. Cleveland May 5. J F Wed kind of Hahn and Wed kind, Ashley Ohio, hanged himself, suspected temporary insanity.

Cuba urged to imitate U S in rewards for insurgent leaders

Havana May 6 reports Cuba advises authorities to follow the United States example in offering rewards for the capture of Jefferson Davie and other prominent insurgent officers. Venezuela sees revolutionaries controlling most cities except Maracaibo Loguogna Puerto Bello and Caracas with a surrounding force. San Domingo faces a possible general revolution unless the U S Senate ratifies a ceasefire.

Fire destroys Tenny's Bamboo Paper Mill in Newark

A Newark fire wiped out Tenny's Bamboo Paper Mill at Bloomfield last night, destroying all machinery and stock. Loss estimated at 100,000 dollars, mostly insured. In Philadelphia, relapsing fever remains widespread with Health Board renovating the infected district. sixteen fever cases removed to the smallpox hospital yesterday, about as many more today.

Pension for Mrs Lincoln Reported in Senate

New York May 5 The First United Presbytery rebuked Rev Charles B Smithe of Eleventh Street Presbyterian Church after he admitted to drinking gin and milk in a bar on Sunday with two newspaper reporters The action was taken on the spot by Rev Dr Harper The confession followed and he pledged to walk more circumspectly in the future Other items note bar admission results and canard about balloon flights from Toronto and railroad rumors in Boston and New York
