He urged government operation during the experimental stage and congressional action to coordinate rail and water transport for the New Orleans to South America and the Orient route.
San Francisco investigators and federal detectives trace two bombs received by District Attorney Charles M. Fickert and assistant Edward A. Cunha to New York. The cartons were addressed to Gimbel Brothers at Thirty-second and Broadway. Bombs also matched contrivances sent to Mayor Ole Hanson of Seattle and former Senator Mardwich of Georgia.

Washington May 9 Replies have come from Republican senators asked by Senator Lodge to refrain from discussing the league covenant until a Republican conference could decide the party attitude. Curtis said about five absent senators replied approving the suggested course. Names not released. Chamberlain of Oregon Democrat supported the revised covenant urging no delay except in a clear emergency.
Springfield May 1 Representatives from cities counties and schools urged higher local revenue in a joint session. Down state units pressed a general tax raise from 1.20 to 2.00 with Chicago seeking up to 2.35 under the Young bill. Debate centered on referendum requirements and which taxes could be increased without votes. Separate hearings covered labor backed bills on eight hours and jury trials in contempt cases.
ST. JOHNS, N. F., April 30. After announcing plans to start their trans Atlantic flight this afternoon the two rival aviators abandoned the attempt upon receiving unfavorable weather reports.
New York May 1. The Postal Telegraph Cable company filed a formal application with Postmaster General to return its telegraph line. The request follows older disputes over line control and service allocation, signaling potential reversion of the line to government or alternate operators.
New York and Washington agencies search for radical bombmakers tied to anti immigration measures and prominent officials. Bombs mailed to disrupt May Day protests timed to terrorize labor movements. Packages seized in New York addressed to Holmes, Burleson, Wilson, Palmer, Caminetti, and Lamar as authorities widen investigations.
A wave of mailed explosive devices reached top officials including Senators Hardwick of Georgia and Palmer, and U.S. Attorney General, with 16 undelivered bombs found in New York and six delivered to government figures. HANNIBAL man Harry Inman, 55, was shot and killed in a Keokuk grocery store Wednesday evening by two black hold-up men. They seized $140 from the cash register. Joseph Morris and William Scott were captured by a posse led by Keokuk Chief E. C. Venneman as they prepared to swim the Des Moines river. Anger from citizens prompted a safety plan to move the suspects to Fort Madison where they were placed in the state prison. Both men confessed. Morris said he fired the shot. Morris said he came to Keokuk from Hannibal six weeks ago. Scott lists Des Moines as his home.
