County Clerks Face Dilemma Over Last Primary Ruling
SPRINGFIELD, Ill March 28 Illinois county clerks face a quandary after Attorney General Brundage ruled that women may express their presidential preference at the April 13 primary. Clerks were telegraphed guidance that women may vote only for presidential candidates, not delegates or precinct committeemen, with ballots counted and reported separately. The opinion is not a reversal but clarifies that allowing women to vote will not invalidate the primary.
