Des Morkrs March 18 The Senate advanced bills to abolish the Medical Department of the State University and to encourage immigration and to resume lands granted to the Dubuque Belleville Sabula Railroad Company. A railroad gross receipts tax bill was read and referred to the Railroad Committee. The death of Representative Conner of Washington county was announced and eulogized by Senator Bennett. The House supported the railroad tax measure. The session left unresolved the Des Moines Valley Railroad lands issue, postponed for one week.
