Annapolis Md March U1 Recent naval legislation offers young men of the United States the best opportunity to become midshipmen and, after the academy course, commissioned officers of the navy. Congress boosts appointments to a five per member, enabling larger classes and a growing midshipman corps. The enlistment route remains a key path with competitive exams for up to 100 per class, ages under 19 and one year of service. An April 15 examination will select the next class. The new class may exceed 900, bringing total midshipmen to just over 2300 within a stable 2400 future.
