Mississippi River Scenic Highway Named after Era Trail
The Mississippi Scenic Highway association in Quincy voted to name the 2,500 mile route from Glacier National Park to New Orleans the Mississippi River Scenic Highway, rejecting the Yankee Doodle proposal. Capt. H. B. Watkins led the fight for the Yankee name but the group adopted a national scenic highway plan with officers, by laws, and a Memphis meeting planned for the first annual gathering.
