Field Day For Boxing Law In State Capital

A public hearing in Springfield on legalizing boxing in Illinois drew speakers from Chicago and northern Illinois with opposing ministers noting risks of prize fighting. Support came from officials including Camp Grant chaplain and Chicago Athletic Association leaders as critics warned any law would fail to curb illegal bouts. The House temperance committee advanced a bill to curb illicit liquor with a search clause, backed by the Anti-Saloon League and Rep Brewer.
