Northwest Missouri and Iowa legislatures in session

The Missouri Senate adopted a constitutional amendment banning public funds for sectarian education with a 27 to 6 vote. A House amendment to allow Bible reading in public schools was defeated. In Iowa, multiple bills were introduced and referred, including ones expanding loan rate fixing, punishing prize fighting, establishing a new penitentiary, legalizing Henry County tax lists, funding a reform school, and promoting immigration. The Iowa Senate adjourned until Monday.

No Quorum Halts Tennessee House Adjourning Plan

The Tennessee House in Nashville failed to reach a quorum and will not meet for the remainder of the session. Adjournment is set for Monday. The year’s financial policy is finished but no funding exists to pay state debt or interest. The general tax law will cover only government expenses and Comptroller warrants.

Rebellion in Venezuela Attacked Velera Defeated
