Committee Members Fail To Attend City Saloon License Hearing
Inability of James E McNutt and John Meyers to attend delayed a probe into whether the ordinance committee and police commissioners should urge issuing six month saloon licenses for Bergman Lios and Henry Nieman on Front Street. A Monday night session will decide if Mayor Thompson should grant or deny the licenses, despite a petition by over 200 factory workers urging permit approval. The mayor, holding final authority, has ordered the clerk to refuse the licenses and stated council recommendations carry no binding force.
