London June 28 Thirty two British ships of more than 1,600 tons and seven under 1,600 tons were sunk last week by mines or submarines as per the Admiralty losses list. Arrivals and sailings were reported at 2876 and 2023 respectively, with a net weekly drop of four vessels overall from the prior week.
Waukesha Wisconsin June 2 Miss Grace Lusk a high school teacher was found responsible by a coroner s jury for the death of Mrs Mary Newman Roberts wife of Dr David Roberts after Lusk shot Roberts wife and attempted self harm The jury directed that Lusk stand trial for the shooting Dr Roberts testified that Lusk was infatuated with him He said Mrs Roberts had insulted Lusk and called her an old fool and that Roberts loved Lusk but did not love his wife A letter introduced as evidence claimed Roberts swore his love on a Bible and promised to tell Lusk before June 15 He said he did not love his wife and Lusk threatened to end all if he did not love her Chief of Police McKay said Lusk expressed regret at the hospital.
Washington June 28 bakers nationwide have placed their industries under the food administration and pledged full compliance with Hoover as to executing all directives. A representative of the baking industry will serve as a voluntary aid to Mr Hoover and 200 local committees will be named to carry out his instructions.
Calgary June 28 The strike of 8000 coal miners in western Canada, active since April 1, ended Wednesday as Commissioner W H Armstrong ordered immediate resumption of operations. The government directed the operators to comply, promising a 29.5 percent wage increase and warning of possible coal shortages that could affect the 1917 crop movement.
Air craft experts from this country arrive at a British port after a June 28 announcement by the aircraft production board. The party of about 125 includes professionals in legal, manufacturing, designing, engineering, military and naval fields to study European aircraft design and production methods.

Adams NL June 28 Members of the Newtown Sunday school will give a picnic and supper in the park on the afternoon and evening of July 4. A program of addresses by able speakers and musical numbers will be presented. The Liberty band will be present to play for the occasion.
Washington June 28 The Senate Agriculture Committee rewrote the House food measure adding a sweeping bone dry prohibition and broad government control. The panel seeks authority to requisition foods fuels and materials and to operate factories plants and mines for national defense. It advances a 9 to 7 vote on prohibition and backs wage arbitration to settle plant disputes.
Four resolutions adopted by the Chicago school board aim to restore the status quo amid a bitter wrangle with the city council. The board seeks Hoyne to oust new members, directs police to withdraw guards, orders surrender of rooms, and defines the school situation if council does not concur, leaving the old board in place.
In San Salvador on June 28 the earthquakes that caused extensive damage over three weeks have nearly ceased. The government is enacting active measures for sanitation care of the injured and removal of debris.

In Des Moines Iowa June 28 state agents arrested sixty men during a raid at McGregor opposite Prairie du Chien Wisconsin. Sixty automobiles loaded with liquor were seized and four ferry boats were taken. The mayor of McGregor was among those arrested.
In Tokyo Viscount Motono and Premier Terauchi spoke on China’s wartime stance, urging China to join the Allies. Motono said China sought Japan’s advice on breaking with Germany and that Japan favored China’s entry for its own interests and to curb German machinations. Terauchi praised America’s entry and Japan’s relief.
Cook county state’s attorney Mac lay Hoyne will ask Illinois Supreme Court to reverse its ruling granting a new trial for Charles B. Munday, convicted in Grundy county of bank wrecking and sentenced to five years. Hoyne notified Attorney General Brundage of plans to file a rehearing to uphold the trial court. Munday, former vice president of LaSalle Street Trust and Savings Bank, had interests in other banks and businesses.
The Greek steamship N Hadzikyriakos, 2533 tons, was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine about 300 miles off the English coast on May 31, with 22 lives lost. D J Theoppilatos, agent for the owners here, announced the loss via cable from the chief engineer who survived.
The Illinois State Coroners Association elected officers at its annual session. President is W. C. Wunderlich of Joliet, first vice president James Hare of Bloomington, second vice president C. S. Norvell of Waggoner. Decatur chosen as 1918 convention site. The group favored abolishing the coroner fee system in favor of a straight salary plan.
