The grand Saengerfest picnic at Shorts Grove was disrupted when the steamer Ben Franklin struck the bridge, knocking down two chimneys and demolishing the pilot house. Tragedy Near Woodstock Illinois Family Attacked
June 19 Cariaco reports a German woman near Woodstock attacked her 18 year old son with an axe during supper, injuring him fatally or seriously. She then wounded her eight year old daughter with a razor and cut her own throat. The daughter escaped to a neighbor and the son and daughter may recover while the mother is expected to die. The husband was away when the blows occurred and the mother intended to kill the whole family.
