Hannibal Stag Pool Room operators plead guilty

Ross Johnson and G W Webster were arrested after a gambling house operation at the Stag hotel and pool room on South Main Street. Both pleaded guilty in separate Hannibal courts and were fined 200 dollars plus costs, then discharged. Webster had been elusive, later found under a railroad trestle and returned to face charges as part of a city wide vice crackdown.

Mrs. Phillipine Seibel 88 Dies At Home In Hannibal

Mrs. Phillipine D. Seibel, 88, a well known Hannibal woman, died at 1:30 Saturday morning at her home 1208 Hill Street. She was the mother of William E., John Denny, Louis L., R. M., Edward H. Seibel, and Mrs. Clara S. Price. The funeral will be held this afternoon with interment in Mount Olive cemetery.

Met Bride Back Of Front Line In Hannibal

In Hannibal on Saturday Montie E. Grey and Miss Clara Creed wed in Judge Thomas S. Hagan's office after meeting in France during the Argonne Meuse fighting. Grey, serving with the regulars, and Miss Creed a Red Cross nurse, planned to marry in the U.S. once he was discharged, with Grey yet to finish service at an eastern camp.

Indiamans On Way To The Wheat Fields

One dozen Richmond men led by G. L. Brown a friend of John G. Hackett were in Hannibal Saturday on their way to Kansas wheat fields. They expect to help with harvest seeking outdoor recreation rather than money. Most have worked indoors and this is their vacation. They traveled in two automobiles.

Hannibal Couple Married By Dent

Gilbert Bundy and Miss Sophia England, both of Hannibal, were united in marriage at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Judge Allen E. Dent at his Center street office. The report ends with a quip about a girl describing a young man as a bear.

Ministers vow to keep bid for a cleaner Hannibal

Hannibal ministers lead a crusade to clean up the city amid opposition and ongoing law enforcement probes. The Christian Church News reports plans to fund the effort, name officials who back the cause, and push for open, fact based discussion with public support and scrutiny. Rev. T. M. Ensign Metz Weds Miss Sarah Conlon In Home

Ensign Gilbert Francis Metz of St Laws married Miss Sarah Conlon daughter of Mr and Mrs John Conlon of Maianthal in a rose bower at the Conlon residence on North Tenth street. The ceremony was performed by Rev Charles H Winders. After the wedding the couple left for Detroit where Metz works on submarine chasers at Ford Motor Works. Metz is a former Atlas Portland cement plant plant engineer and was commissioned in September 1918, serving aboard the President Grant, with four Atlantic crossings. The bride is a Hannibal High School graduate. The wedding party included bridesmaids Ella Frances Riley Lillian Warren and Frances Drescher, maid of honor Lillian Duncan, best man John Scharavelle Ingram, groomsmen Ensign William Harrison Lieut Joe Raible F T Agthe and Charles Chesney. The matron of honor was Mrs Lauriston Halbert Hannah of Washington, D C, and flower girl Chesney, daughter of Dr and Mrs A S Smith. The ceremony featured a wedding march by Betty Eby and Karl Lambrett on violin, with Mrs Harrison White singing At Dawning. The home was decorated in pink white and green and navy colors. The bride wore her mother’s wedding dress and a veil made by Sisters in Ireland. Plane Accident Mirrors Earlier Crash in Hannibal

Dr G W Countryman of Aberdeen S D, nephew of Mrs George Bopp and cousin of Mrs J E Herring of Hannibal, was aboard a plane that crashed near Aberdeen last week. The craft dived nose first after engine failure at 500 feet, turning over. both occupants escaped with minor injuries. The incident echoed a Hannibal Tuesday morning crash in which Os car Bricker of Wabash Ind died in a fire after impact. Countryman paid $10 to the aviator for the ride. he is a known Hannibal visitor.
