Hold Up Case Spurs Demand for Capital Punishment
St Louis June 14 developments after the Meramec Trust heist include Patrolman Ward's death from bullet wounds at Alexian Brothers Hospital and police surrounding two robbers. Investigations reveal confessions by Earl Hunter and Charles Bergmann, with searches for a planning partner and a service car chauffeur. Stolen bank funds recovered in Bergmann's pockets. Hunter claims life imprisonment risk dictated their risky plan. Mrs Thelma Johnson and several Italians, including Louis Guldina, are detained as investigations continue into additional robberies linked to Hunter.
